This is one of the most famous varietals<\/strong> used for red and ros\u00e9 wines. <\/strong>Despite its sensitivity to diseases, <\/strong>Syrah has kept its fame, <\/strong>and is found all around the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fun fact: in French, its gender is feminine: LA<\/u> Syrah \ud83d\ude09<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1998, a scientific study and a DNA analysis led to know more about the origin of this mysterious varietal. It was finally revealed that its origins are from the northern part of C\u00f4tes du Rh\u00f4ne and Rh\u00f4ne Valley<\/strong>. Syrah is a mix between La Mondeuse Blanche (Haute-Savoie) and Dureza (ancient varietal from Ard\u00e8che)<\/strong>. It would have been mixed naturally in Is\u00e8re, centuries ago<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n

Then, this wonderful varietal spread all over the world<\/strong>, especially in Australia<\/strong>, where it is called Shiraz.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can easily recognize the particularities of Syrah\u00a0by its deep and intense red dress<\/strong> which doesn\u2019t change a lot through time. The nose is usually spicy <\/strong>(pepper), with notes of black fruits<\/strong>, and violet<\/strong>. Depending on the region and the exposure, the terroir<\/strong> will bring variation<\/strong> of its aromatic palette.<\/p>\n

Other particularities of this varietal are its aromatic power and its lingering finish<\/strong>. This power is due to a good alcoholic richness and a light acidity, as well as soft tannins.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can easily keep your Syrah wine for a few years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most of the time, Syrah is blending with other varietals, <\/strong>like Viognier<\/strong>. As for our delicious Arrogant Frog Syrah\/Viognier wine!<\/strong><\/p>\n

But it can also be blended with some Grenache, Mourv\u00e8dre, or Cinsault\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

In France, you can find Syrah in Northern Rh\u00f4ne <\/strong>of course, but also in Provence, Languedoc Roussillon, or on the West coast.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Syrah is very \u201cclimate easygoing\u201d. <\/strong>Therefore, we can find it in so many different wine regions and countries. It is grown in Italy, South Africa, Argentina, Mexico, California, New-Zealand, and especially in Australia<\/strong> whose production represents 9% of the production<\/strong>!<\/p>\n
